Why Do I Need To Replace My Outdoor Wood Boiler Door Seal?
Step 5 of 10 - 2022 Ultimate Summer Shutdown Checklist
The material used for your outdoor wood boiler door gasket ("Fire Rope" or "Door Seal") provides an airtight seal to prevent air leaks. Your outdoor furnace door gasket must be replaced typically every 2-3 years.
This is a standard maintenance procedure that we strongly advise you to follow in order to keep your boiler healthy and efficient while also reducing your workload. Some cases may require you to replace the rope gasket sooner than 2 years, as long as it's necessary.
Always remember to check for any air leak on your stove door.
If your door stove gasket is failing, AIR will leak into your boiler in the idle mode and this will cause the following problems:
- Reduced efficiency
- Wastes your precious wood fuel
- Increases your work load
- Possible furnace overheat
- Possible loss of water (and water treatment!) that must be replaced
- In some cases, damage to overheated steel, particularly the door and door frame
Another problem with a leaky door seal is that in the firing mode, some of your heat will escape through the door seal, rather than sending those BTUs to your home.
We offer a door seal replacement kit that includes BOTH the fire rope, AND the high-temperature caulk. Our door seal fire rope can withstand up to 1,000°F (538°C) max. temperature.
This fire rope gasket is perfect for commercial and industrial ovens and furnaces, wood stoves, hearths, and fireplaces. It is soft and has low compression so you can use it and form it around irregular surfaces.
The high-temperature black caulk is a 100% silicone sealant that stays permanently flexible. Suitable for sealing around oven, windows, venting for pellet stoves, fireplaces, or gas stoves. It can withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit on a continuous basis.
